Maybe an early love letter to painting? Color Studies was a series of photographs and sculptures dedicated to colors and paint. Mainly primary colors stood in contrast to black or white background. The show at Michael Benevento Gallery in Los Angeles motivated me to design the gallery space around the artworks. The sculptures should be more supportive than anything else. Cheap black painted wood was the material for the environment of the gallery. It looked great. For me, it was a sheer pleasure to work with actual paint for the photographs and sculptures. And now, 12 years later, I am painting on canvas. As I wrote, maybe this was the training for the real thing.
2009, the same year, I showed the photographs at Metro Pictures in New York.
